NFL Week 2 Highlights

Concern grew for several teams with Super Bowl hopes in Week 2 of the NFL season. The Steelers, Eagles, and Patriots all fell, the Packers and Vikings settled for a tie, and the Saints just managed to slip by with an extremely close win. Patrick Mahomes made a big impression as the Kansas City Chiefs enjoyed a 42-37 road win against the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Dallas Cowboys avoided a dreadful 0-2 start for the season after defeating the New York Giants. The Jaguars managed to claim a 31-20 victory over the New England Patriots, and the 49ers celebrated a close 30-27 victory after beating the Detroit Lions. However, the biggest news from Week 2 was Vontae Davis retiring during halftime as cornerback for the Bills. In that same game, the Bills managed to lose 13-26 against the Cincinnati Bengals which is not an ideal way to retire from the sport. There was a lot more action that took place last weekend, but before we get stuck in the past, let's rather focus on the future and see what Week 3 has in store for us.

Best Upcoming NFL Matches for Week 3 - Prediction Winnings Bets on Wins and Upsets

Indianapolis Colts (1-1) at Philadelphia Eagles (1-1): First Guaranteed Win

When: Sunday, September 23. 2018 at 13:00pm

Betting Odds: Philadelphia Eagles -6, Over/Under: 47.5

The Philadelphia Eagles will try and make a comeback after a surprising loss when they play host to the Indianapolis Colts in a Week 3 inter-conference battle at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday afternoon. The Indianapolis Colts are coming off a marvellous 23-9 road win against the Redskins, while the Eagles were shocked 27-21 by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 2. This is the first clash between these two NFL teams since 2014 where the Eagles claimed a 30-27 victory.

Colts Defense Shines in Victory Against Redskins

The Indianapolis Colts will head into a difficult game after a convincing 21-9 win on the road against the Redskins in Week 2. Andrew Luck couldn't produce big numbers where he collected 179 passing years along with 2 interceptions and 2 touchdowns. The star quarterback is off to a brilliant start this season after missing last season due to an injury where he amassed 498 passing yards along with 3 interceptions and 4 touchdowns. Marlon Mack was back in action after missing week 1 with an injury, accumulating 10 carries on 34 rushing yards. T.Y Hilton made quite an impression last week, making 7 grabs on 83 yards, but will be faced with a difficult challenge this week against the strong secondary team of the Eagles. The offense of the Colts wasn't too spectacular against the Redskins where they only accumulated 281 total yards. They will certainly need more offense against the elite offense of the Eagles this week. With an average of 22 points, the Colts are currently ranked 20th in the NFL.

The defense of the Colts was tremendous last week against the Redskins as they couldn't concede a single touchdown. Darius Leonard was amazing for two consecutive weeks, making a total of 18 tackles for his team. The rookie linebacker is currently leading the Colts with a total of 27 tackles and seems like he is in for a glorious rookie year. The Colts will need to be sharp as they face an angry Eagles team this week. Indianapolis have allowed 21.5 points on average in two games which places them 14th overall.

Eagles Defense Fails Horribly Against Buccaneers

The Philadelphia Eagles will be quite eager to make a comeback after a devastating 27-21 road loss in Week 2 against the Buccaneers. Nick Foles managed to play well, amassing 334 passing yards along with 1 touchdown. Carson Wentz will finally make his return this weekend after an injury. Wentz dominated in the last 13 games for of last season with 7 interceptions and 33 touchdowns. Jay Ajayi only accumulated 23 yards on 7 carries in Week 2 with a total of 85 rushing yards in the last two matches. Zach Ertz experienced a big weekend against the Buccaneers, notching 11 grabs for a total of 94 yards and is currently leading the Eagles with a total of 142 receiving yards. Philadelphia's offense looked much better against the Buccaneers after a poor performance in their Week 1 victory against the Falcons, and they are certainly in for a massive game this weekend with Wentz back in the fold. With an average of 19.5 points in two games, the Eagles are currently ranked 25th overall.

Philadelphia's defense managed to post a rather uncharacteristic performance while playing against the Buccaneers in Week 2, surrendering a total of 402 passing yards to Tamp Bay quarterback, Ryan Fitzpatrick. The Eagle's rush defense is currently ranked number 1, but their secondary seemed rather vulnerable in Week 2 after a sensational effort in Week 1. There's no doubt that they will be tested again in Week 3 by Andrew Luck. The Eagles are allowing 19.5 points on average in two matches, placing them 9th in the NFL.

Important Trends

The Eagles are 8-2 ATS in the last 10 games at home, 4-1 ATS in the last 5 overall games, and 8-3 ATS in the last 11 games after they allowed less than 90 yards in the previous game. The Colts are 1-7 ATS in the last 8 games after a win, 1-4 ATS in the last 5 games on the road against a team that holds a winning record.

The Bottom Line

Some might argue that Philadelphia should be on a 0-2 record this season if it wasn't for the Falcons performing so poorly during the season opener. Although Wentz might breathe some life into the Eagle's offense, we can't help but wonder if he still needs to get back on his feet first. We weren't happy with the Colts last week, but they managed to prove us wrong and managed to work out all their issues with Andrew Luck on top form at the moment. We believe Andrew Luck has what it takes to impress us once again against the Eagles, so we're not making the same mistake again this week and will be backing the Colts for the win.

Tennessee Titans (1-1) at Jacksonville Jaguars (2-0): Second Guaranteed Win

When: Sunday, September 23, 2018 at 13:00pm

Betting Odds: Jacksonville Jaguars -6.5, Over/Under: 39.5

The Jacksonville Jaguars will hope to increase their impressive 3-0 record while playing host to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday afternoon in a divisional clash at the TIAA Bank Field. Tennessee claimed a 20-17 home victory against the Houston Texans in Week 2, while the Jaguars will return after a 31-20 home victory against the New England Patriots. The Jaguars were defeated by the Titans in both games last season, including a 37-16 road victory in Week 2.

Titans Celebrate Win Against Texans

The Tennessee Titans were outstanding in their 20-17 home victory against the Houston Texans in Week 2. Marcus Mariota was out due to an elbow injury which meant Blaine Gabbert had to step in, accumulating 117 passing yards along with 1 touchdown. Mariota should be back in the fold in this clash, registering 349 passing yards along with 1 interception and 2 touchdowns against the Jaguars in the previous season. Derrick Henry didn't generate much in Week 2 with 18 carries on 56 rushing yards. Dion Lewis is leading the Titans with a total of 117 rushing yards. Delanie Walker is out for the season due to an ankle injury, and therefore Matthews will take control of the passing game for the Titans. The Titans deserve loads of credit for managing a total of 20 points against the defense of the Texans in Mariota's absence. The Titans will face another difficult task against the vaunted defense of the Jaguars. Tennessee has an average of 20 points in two matches, placing them 23rd overall.

The defense of the Tennessee Titans squandered more than 400 yards in Week 2 but were able to make several big stops. The Titans made 4 sacks in Week 2 led by Jurrell Casey with 2 sacks. Tennessee will be required to tighten up defensively while playing against the Jaguars as they allowed 390 total yards on average in two matches. The Titans have allowed 22 points on average, placing them 15th in the NFL.

Bortles Shines in Victory over Patriots

The Jacksonville Jaguars managed to get their revenge against the New England Patriots after a truly impressive 31-20 home victory in Week 2 after being defeated by the Patriots in the AFC title match in the previous season. Blake Bortles provided a mind-blowing performance where he accumulated 377 passing yards along with 4 touchdowns. The Jacksonville quarterback accumulated 553 passing yards along with 2 interceptions and 5 touchdowns in two matches. TJ. Yeldon collected 58 rushing yards with a total of 10 carries, standing in for Leonard Fournette due to an injury. Yeldon has accumulated 109 rushing yards in the last 2 matches. Keelan Cole provided a marvelous performance against New England, making 7 grabs for a total of 116 yards. The offense of the Jaguars was quite impressive without their star running back. The Jaguars will in all likelihood rely on their passing game if Fournette is still out of play. With an average of 25.5 points, the Jaguars are currently ranked 12th in the NFL.

The Jaguars outstanding defense managed to hold New England and Tom Brady to a total of 302 yards in Week 2. The Jaguars are considered to have the best defensive team within the NFL which managed to contain Brady in Week 2. Revenge will again be on the minds of the Jaguars as they face the Titans who managed to defeat them twice in the previous season. The Jaguars held their opponents to 17.5 points on average, ranking them 5th in the NFL.

Important Trends

The Jaguars are 4-0 ATS in the last 4 overall games, 5-1 ATS in the last 6 games in September, and considered the favourite at 5-1-1 ATS in the last seven meetings between the Jaguars and the Titans. The Titans are 1-5-1 ATS in the last 7 Jacksonville games, 9-22 ATS in the last 31 games on the road, and 4-11 ATS in the last 15 games on the road against a team with a winning record at home.

The Bottom Line

We are going with the Jaguars in this matchup. They just managed to defeat the New England Patriots by a total of 11 points, and the Jacksonville defense should easily allow them to claim another victory in this clash. The receiving core of the Titans is thin without Delanie Walker, and Matthews only has 8 receiving yards in 2 matches. The running game of the Titans has also been quite mediocre, and we don't see how they can solve the Jaguars' defense. In addition, Blake Bortles has accumulated 5 touchdown passes and we expect a productive Sunday afternoon from the Jaguars' running game while playing against the rush defense of the Titans that currently ranks 24th within the NFL.

Cincinnati Bengals (2-0) at Carolina Panthers (1-1): Upset of the Week

When: Sunday, September 23, at 13:00pm

Betting Odds: Panthers -3, Over/Under 43.5

The Carolina Panthers will play host to the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday afternoon in an inter-conference clash at the Bank of America Stadium. The Cincinnati Bengals claimed a 34-23 home victory against the Ravens in Week 2, while the Carolina Panthers suffered a 31-24 away decision against the Falcons in Week 2. This will be the first meeting between the Panthers and the Bengals since 2014 in a game that ended up in a 37-37 tie.

Bengals Celebrate Second Consecutive Win

The Cincinnati Bengals will look to claim their third consecutive win after Andy Dalton contributed to a 34-23 home victory against the Ravens in Week 2. Dalton was absolutely amazing, accumulating 265 passing yards along with 4 touchdowns. The Bengals quarterback has been outstanding in the last 2 matchups, throwing a total of 508 yards along with 1 interception and 6 touchdowns. The win from the Bengals came at a horrible cost as Joe Mixon managed to injure his knee where he'll unfortunately miss up to 4 weeks of play. Giovanni Bernard will be his replacement for the next few weeks. Both Tyler Boyd and A.J Green enjoyed a strong start this season. Boyd has a total of 117 receiving yards and Green collected 161 receiving yards so far. The offense of the Bengals is excellent this season, scoring a total of 34 points against the Ravens and Colts defense.

The defense of the Bengals allowed 425 yards in Week 2 which included 376 passing yards from quarterback, Joe Flacco. The Bengals will need to tighten up their defenses this week. Cincinnati's rush defense has been phenomenal in the last two matches, ranking 4th in the NFL. Geno Atkins has already accumulated 3 sacks for the season, and Cincinnati has 6 sacks in total in the last two matches. Dre Kirkpatrick might be out this week due to a leg injury, and Burfict will continue to serve his 4-game suspension. Allowing 23 points on average over the last two games, The Bengals are currently ranked 17th overall.

Panthers Defeated by The Falcons

The Carolina Panthers will look for their second victory of the season after losing 34-24 against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 2. Cam Newton was incredible, collecting 335 passing yards along with 3 touchdowns and managed to add 42 rushing yards as well. The Panthers quarterback played extremely well in the last 2 matches, accumulating 496 passing yards along with 1 interception and 3 touchdowns. Keep an eye on Christian McCaffrey this week as he is extremely active in the offense of the Panthers. He managed to rush 37 yards against the Falcons and made 14 catches for a total of 102 yards. Devin Funchess managed to record 77 receiving yards last week against the Falcons and boasts with 118 yards in two matches. Greg Olsen is suffering from a foot injury and will not be available for the next month. Carolina's running game is without a doubt their biggest strength when it comes to offense with an average of 20 points in two matches.

The defense of the Panthers couldn't come up with an answer for the Falcons offense and Matt Ryan in Week 2, squandering a total of 442 yards. The secondary team of the Panthers looked vulnerable at times while playing against the Falcons after a stunning performance in the season opener against Dallas. The Panthers will be challenged by a strong passing game from the Bengals this week. The Panthers are allowing 19.5 points on average, ranking them 8th in the NFL.

Important Trends

The Panthers are 5-1 ATS in the last 6 games at home, 4-0 ATS in the last 4 games after a loss, and 5-0 ATS in the last 5 games after they allowed over 30 points in the previous match. The Bengals are 1-3-1 ATS in the last 5 games against the Carolina Panthers.

The Bottom Line

We are siding with the Panthers in this clash as they will be playing on home ground. The pass defense of the Bengals has been shaky where they allowed 332 passing yards on average in two matches. Cam Newton just recorded 335 passing yards along with 3 touchdowns against the Falcons, so we're expecting him to have another excellent run this week. In addition, the pass defense of the Panthers has been sharp where they are currently ranked 7th in the NFL in two matches. This gives us confidence that they'll be able to contain A.J Green and Andy Dalton. Furthermore, the defense of the Bengals has yet to be challenged this season by a strong running game.
