Quick NFL Recap: Week 1

The first week of the National Football League action is officially behind us and what a week it was. There were several unexpected surprises, an arsenal of highlight-reel plays that you can watch on loop, and way too many significant injuries. The four NFC South football teams were certainly the topic of discussion following their games in week 1. The Panthers managed to shut out the Cowboys for over 50 minutes before claiming a 16-8 win. The Buccaneers seemed to resemble the St. Louis Rams of 1999 with their impressive 48-40 victory over the Saints, and the Falcons suffered red-zone issues where multiple trips resulted in 0 points, serving as the catalyst in their 18-12 loss against the Eagles. It will be rather captivating to see how each of the NFL teams fare in their clashes in week 2.

Best Upcoming Games in NFL Week 2 - Predicting a Winning Bet on Guaranteed Wins and Upsets

Indianapolis Colts (0-1) at Washington Redskins (1-0): First Guaranteed Win

When: Sunday, September 16, 2018 at 13:00 pm

Betting Odds : Washington Redskins -5.5, Over/Under: +45.5

The Indianapolis Colts will take to the road in a week 2 interconference battle against the Washington Redskins at the FedEx Field on Sunday afternoon. The Indianapolis Colts managed to drop a 34-23 home decision against the Bengals in week 1, and the Washington Redskins are returning from a 24-6 win against the Arizona Cardinals. This will make it the first meeting between the Indianapolis Colts and the Washington Redskins since 2014 in a match where the Colts managed to win 49-27.

Indianapolis Colts Fall to Cincinnati Bengals

The Indianapolis Colts managed to surrender a total of 14 points during the fourth quarter in their regrettable 34-23 loss against the Cincinnati Bengals in their opener at home, spoiling the return of Andrew Luck in the process. Luck was sensational in the defeat where he accumulated 319 years with one interception and two touchdowns. The quarterback missed the entire 2017 season with a shoulder injury and there's no doubt that his presence is extremely welcoming to Colts fans. The Indianapolis Colts didn't generate loads of offense on the ground while Jordan Wilkins lead the way last week with 40 yards. T.Y Hilton was extremely quiet during the season-opening loss, generating 5 grabs for 46 yards. The sensational receiver has managed to develop remarkable chemistry with Andrew Luck the last couple of years and should undoubtedly be on his way to achieve another 1000-yard season. The Colts offense overall was rather solid against the strong defense of the Bengals and will certainly be more exciting as well with Andrew Luck back in the picture.

The defense of the Colts didn't play as bad as the indicated score as the Bengals managed to score a defensive touchdown. Darius Leonard was a shining star in his first ever career season game where he led the Colts with 9 tackles. The Colts defense is below par, especially when it comes to defending the pass. However, they do have some talent on the board with the likes of Malik Hooker. The defense of the Colts will need to be sharp against the offense of the Redskins as they were on fire last week.

Washington Redskins Shine with Alex Smith

The Washington Redskins managed to open their 2018 season with an amazing performance in their 24-6 win against the Arizona Cardinals on the road. Alex Smith made his debut with the Redskins and he was remarkable, accumulating 255 yards with a total of two touchdowns. Smith is returning from a career-year with the Kansas City Chiefs where he recorded more than 4,000 yards with 26 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. The running game of the Redskins was unstoppable last week, collecting 182 rushing yards which was led by Adrian Peterson with a total of 96 yards. Jamison Crowder, the Redskins number 1 receiver, only accumulated 32 receiving yards against Arizona. The Washington Redskins doesn't feature a deep receiving core and Chris Thompson and Adrian Peterson as running backs actually led the team last week in receiving yards. Alex Smith and the passing game of the Redskins will be up against a wobbly Colts secondary in the upcoming game.

The defense of the Washington Redskins was tremendous in last week's game against Arizona where they limited them to 213 yards. The Washington Redskins come equipped with a very strong secondary that is led by Josh Norman who is certainly going to be tested by T.Y Hilton and Andrew Luck this week. The Redskins will enjoy their next two matches at home and will have a fantastic opportunity to start the 2018 season 2-0 for the first time in 7 years.

The Bottom Line

The Indianapolis Colts had 5 more first downs, held on to the ball for 5 minutes longer than the Bengals, and gained 50 more yards, but for some reason lost by a total of 11 points. Horrible football teams will always find a way to lose by any means necessary and the Colts certainly displayed this yet again. We don't wish to overreact when it comes to the Redskins, but defeating the Cardinals is rather impressive, especially when you consider it occurred on the road. The Redskins offense was balanced with two veterans in Smith and Peterson running the show and the defense certainly showed loads of potential. Unfortunately, we don't have any confidence in the Colts and until they show us something worthwhile, we'll back the Redskins by a TD.

Minnesota Vikings (1-0) at Green Bay Packers (1-0): Second Guaranteed Win

When: Sunday, September 16, 2018 at 13:00 pm

Betting Odds : Minnesota Vikings +1.5, Over/Under: 46

The Green Bay Packers will play host to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday afternoon in an NFC North battle at Lambeau Field. The Minnesota Vikings enjoyed a 24-16 win at home last week against the 49ers, while the Green Bay Packers claimed a 24-23 home win in their opener against the Bears. Last season, the Minnesota Vikings managed to win both games when they played against the Green Pay Packers.

Vikings Claim Victory with Kirk Cousins

The Minnesota Vikings managed to open their season with an extraordinary 24-16 win against the 49ers at home last week. Kirk Cousins was nothing short of outstanding in his debut with the Vikings where he connected 20 out of 36 passes for a total of 244 yards with 2 touchdowns. The quarterback managed to accumulate more than 4,000 yards in three consecutive seasons and will undoubtedly enjoy another incredible year when you consider the talented receivers in his team. Dalvin Cook and Latavius Murray split the duties in the opening game where Murray led the way with a total of 42 yards. Adam Thielen got his season off to a sensational start, collecting 6 grabs for 102 yards. The Minnesota Vikings have a dynamic offense that has the ability to burn opponents both on the ground and in the air.

The defense of the Minnesota Vikings was quite solid against the 49ers last week. Jimmy Garoppolo was extremely potent against the Vikings pass defense last week where he recorded 261 yards, and the defense will yet again be challenged by Aaron Rodgers this week. The Vikings are currently the best defense team in the National Football League with playmakers in every position.

Rodgers Lead Green Bay Packers to Marvellous Comeback Win

The Green Bay Packers eliminated a 20-0 deficit against the Bears where they eventually claimed a 24-23 victory led by a remarkable performance from Aaron Rodgers during their opener at home. Rodgers initially left the game due to a knee injury but returned during the second half where he led the comeback. The quarterback managed to finish with 286 yards and 3 touchdowns. The running game of the Packers only managed 69 yards with 18 carries where Jamaal Williams led the way with a total of 47 yards. Green Bay will play without Aaron Jones as he is currently serving suspension for the next two games. Randall Cobb enjoyed a noteworthy performance last week where he accumulated 142 yards on 9 carries but will have a far more difficult time finding open field when playing against the Vikings in the upcoming game.

It's already been confirmed that Aaron Rodgers is playing this week and that gives the Packers a solid chance to win, regardless of the opponent. Green Bay's defense played astonishingly against Chicago where they were limited to 294 yards in total and only 6 points during the second half. Green Bay's pass defense was also great in the opening game and there's no doubt that Jaire Alexander and Josh Jackson will be greatly tested in their matchup against the ferocious passing game of the Vikings.

The Bottom Line

The Green Bay Packers managed to lose 4 out of 5 games against the Vikings, and this could be the best version of Minnesota we've seen yet. The Minnesota Vikings currently boast with one of the best defenses and the offense is far more balanced with Kirk Cousins and Cook helping with both receiving and rushing. However, we are still backing Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers in this game as Aaron is the ultimate equalizer. We basically just want Green Bay to win the game and that's something you can be confident about when Rodgers is on the field.

Miami Dolphins (1-0) at New York Jets (1-0): Upset of the Week

When: Sunday, September 16, 2018 at 13:00 pm

Betting Odds : New York Jets -1, Over/Under: 45.5

Two AFC East rivals will clash in the Garden State as they renew their rivalry for the 2018 NFL season. The Miami Dolphins will take to the road as they meet the New York Jets on Sunday afternoon at the MetLife Stadium. The Dolphins managed to survive two weather delays and the Tennessee Titans as they claimed a 27-20 victory in their opening game at home. The New York Jets destroyed the Detroit Lions 48-17 in their opening game on the road.

Miami Dolphins Want to Increase Record to 2-0

The Miami Dolphins managed to overcome lousy weather which included heavy rains, lightning, and two delays covering nearly 2 hours, to defeat the Tennessee Titans. The game lasted a total of 7 hours and 8 minutes due to delays. The Miami Dolphins were leading 7-3 at halftime and after 3 quarters managed to improve the score to 10-3. After the Tennessee Titans tied the match, Miami took the lead for good after a kick return for score. The Dolphins also managed 3 turnovers while allowing two giveaways.

Ryan Tannehill achieved 20 out of 28 passing attempts for 230 yards with 2 interceptions and 2 touchdowns. Frank Gore was the ground game leader with 9 carries for 61 yards during his debut for the Dolphins. Kenyan Drake managed to contribute 48 yards on a total of 14 carries for the victory. In the Dolphins passing game, Jakeem Grant managed to lead the way with 5 receptions for a total of 38 yards. Jakeem Grant also ran a kickoff of 102 yards for the score. Danny Amendola and Kenny Stills both had 4 receptions for the victory. Reshad Jones boasted with 2 interceptions on defense and Jason Sanders managed to hit all 3 extra point attempts and 2 field goal attempts in his debut for the NFL.

New York Jets Attempt to Build Off Blowout in Week 1

The New York Jets managed to bounce back after an extremely slow start by revving things up in the second half to comfortably take the much-needed victory against the Detroit Lions on Monday evening. The New York Jets initially fell behind 0-7 but managed to rally to take a 10-17 lead at halftime. Once the Lions tied the match during the third quarter, the Jets scored 3 touchdowns in a span of just over 2 minutes to enjoy a 38-17 lead. The New York Jets scored a total of 31 points during the third quarter. Furthermore, the New York Jets forced 5 turnovers while allowing 2 takeaways.

Sam Darnold was extremely efficient during his first start in the NFL where he managed to complete 16 out of 21 pass attempts for 198 yards with 1 interception and 2 touchdowns. Darnold threw an interception on his initial pass attempt but quickly bounced back thereafter. Isaiah Crowell was leading the New York Jets on the ground, boasting with 10 carries on a total of 102 yards along with a pair of scores coming from 62 yards. Quincy Enunwa was leading the Jets with 6 interceptions for a total of 63 yards in the passing game, including a score. Bilal Powell managed to contribute 12 attempts for a total of 60 yards during the victory. Neal Sterling and Terrelle Pryor each had 3 catches and Robby Anderson managed to make the most out of his lone reception thanks to a 41-yard TD.

The Bottom Line

The first game of the Miami Dolphins was the perfect definition of an oddball but claiming a victory on the first game is extremely important in the NFL. As for the New York Jets, they don't have much to complain about after defeating the Lions but shouldn't get overconfident either as Detroit assisted quite a lot in that final score. New York Jets and Miami Dolphins games are certainly some of the most entertaining to watch within the NFL lately, and this upcoming clash is certainly going to be another classic. It's rather difficult to predict which team will take it, but we will give a slight edge to the New York Jets purely based on their outstanding performance last week.
