Matchbook Sportsbook does not allow customers from Canada, so if you are looking for a new betting website, we recommend checking out our list of best sports betting sites for Canadians. Matchbook Sportsbook is a betting exchange that has been around since 2004. It was purchased by UK investors back in 2011 and subsequently pulled out of the American market. They pulled out of Canada in July 2014, and then France. The site offers multiple betting currencies and a multi-lingual platform for all their customers. The site operates on a commission based method where customers are charged a percentage of every bet they make on football and other live sports. The commission rates are applied to the winning amount. If your bet loses you get charged a lower amount. The site is available for desktop and mobile users. The sportsbook Matchbook is licensed and regulated by the Alderney Gambling Control Commission and they also have a license from the UK Gambling Commission.

Pros and Cons for Matchbook

  • Oldest and most trusted betting exchange
  • Lots of action on matching bets
  • Reduced commission for new customers
  • Lots of sports on mobile to choose from
  • US, Canadian, and French bettors not permitted
  • American sports such as NFL not as widely bet
  • Not as good as BetFair

Matchbook Sports Betting Bonus and Promotions for Canada

As mentioned, Canadian bettors are not eligible to create an account at Matchbook Sportsbook so if you are looking for great bonus codes and free bet offers be sure to check out our Canadian friendly sportsbooks listed on our site.

New customers at Matchbook Sports can claim a $30 welcome bonus on desktop or mobile. This bonus offer does change, but it tends to remain between $20 and $30 in free no deposit bets. Customers who wish to avail of this offer have to sign up for an account and then make a deposit using a debit or credit card. This is bad news for players who prefer to use e-wallets. You then have to place two bets in the amount of $15 on a back bet and $15 on a lay bet. They also have to be on two different betting markets. If either or your wagers lose, you will be refunded the amounts up to 30. The refund can take up to 48 hours to be credited to your account and it comes with a 5x rollover requirement.

One of the main things to be aware of at sportsbook Matchbook is the commissions. They charge 1 percent commission on every bet you place as well as 1 percent commission on winning bets. Their commissions are still extremely low when compared with other exchanges though.

Mobile Betting

Mobile betting is available for all devices and there are apps for the iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, and Android smartphones and tablets. You can find details on these apps and links to download them on the about page of the Matchbook Sportsbook website. Mobile users get the same features and functionality no matter whether they choose mobile or desktop versions and everything is really easy to find. The mobile site is very user-friendly.

In Play Betting/Live Betting

Match Book Sports doesn't offer as many sports as you will find at regular betting sites so if you want to bet on the likes of NFL, NBA, MBA, or other American sports you will need to look elsewhere. They do have a big focus on major sports like horse racing, tennis, football, and cricket, but there isn't that much more. The non-sports or special markets are limited as well. The site doesn't offer stats or live results when it comes to horse racing either.

It is important to remember that Matchbook Sportsbook is a PC and mobile betting exchange and therefore you will find some great prices and you can define your own price too. The betting slip is quite good and shows your unmatched and matched bets. The odds are quite good and there is just 1% commission on each bet you place that wins. If you bet loses, the commission is lower.

Live betting is also available and to access the in-play portal just click on the Live link in the main menu. You will find a list of all the events that are currently playing a number of different sports. Unfortunately, there is no way to filter through the different sports and there's no indication as to how many markets there are for any given event in the overview section either. You have to click View Full Markets to see everything you need. When compared with regular sportsbooks, the in-play offer was a disappointment. The way the odds are listed is clear and it's easy to see the price changes. You can get moneyline and handicap options in one place and you can customize your own odds on a selection and hope it gets matched. There is no live streaming offer available for live betting so if you don't have another way to watch the match it can get a little frustrating as you are limited to a box score.

The Colossus section of this site is what makes Match Book stand out. This is where you can make picks on select markets and win a share of a huge jackpot prize on mobile and desktop. When we were writing up our sports review, the jackpot was ten million and this prize goes to anyone that picks a winner in every leg of the pool. There are various pools running at any given time and things that you can do include picking three correct scores or picking three 1x2 win selections. You can see exactly what you need to do by visiting the website.

The other great feature is the inclusion of Asian handicaps. You won't find this everywhere so it's great to see and it can add a lot of value to your football bets. The sportsbook Matchbook has a lot of betting markets but when compared with betting exchange Betfair they just can't compete, but as with other betting exchanges, there are no wagering limits. You can bet as much as you like. High profile games from top football league will have hundreds of thousands of bets available, so you have no worries about getting your bet matched. For American sports, it can be a little harder to find lines.

Matchbook Interface

The Matchbook Sportsbook layout is excellent and one of the best desktop and mobile betting exchanges we've seen. The layout and functionality really stand out and using the exchange are very easy and straightforward. Being user-friendly seems to be something that the owners have really focused on. The theme used is black and white and it has a very professional look and feel. The left-hand side of the homepage details all the various sports that are available for betting on. These include football, soccer, F1, tennis, golf, NHL hockey, and more. These are displayed using icons rather than text but it's very easy to understand. The centre of the page shows all the information you need about the bets including odds, date of the event, lines, over/under, and more. On the right-hand side of the page is the betting slips and all your wagers are organized here. Overall, we thought the design was excellent and there was very little to distract us from the bets we wanted to place. There were no distracting advertisements or promotions which we felt really helped.

Deposit and Withdrawal Methods

The most common complaint relating to this site is to do with cashier speeds, even on mobile. Another complaint that some users have is that Match Book Sports can charge for withdrawals. If you haven't placed a lot of bets such as lines or over/under bets before requesting a withdrawal you may be charged a fee. If you choose bank transfer as your withdrawal methods you have to pay a $35 fee. You also have to withdraw a minimum of $500 for bank transfers. On top of this fee, all bank transfers have additional costs and your own bank will charge a fee too.

Matchbook Sports Book accepts a lot of currencies including US dollars, Euro, and Pounds Sterling. Deposit methods on desktop and mobile include e-wallets such as Skrill, Instadebit, and Neteller but it worth remembering that you can't claim the welcome bonus unless you use your credit or debit card to make a deposit. Withdrawals via bank transfer and credit/debit cards can take up to five business days. E-wallet withdrawals can take up to two days. It is important to check for the different limits and fees charged if you are going to use this site.

Customer Support

Customer support is another disappointment. They don't offer 24/7 support and you can only get in touch with the support team during business hours which are 9am to 3am each day. You can get in touch with the support team using live chat, email, and by phone. The website also has an extensive FAQs section where you will find the answers to the most basic questions, including how to bet on mobile.

Our Matchbook Recommendation

Matchbook Sportsbook is not an option for Canadian bettors. For everyone else, it is not the best choice when it comes to betting exchanges. The welcome bonus can only be claimed if you make your deposit using your credit or debit card. The free bet no deposit bonus is not available if you deposit using an e-wallet like Skrill or Neteller. Slow mobile payouts are the main issue that customers have and when it comes to sports the focus is on the UK markets and football. Other than this, you will find low commissions, regular bonus codes, live in-play betting and results, and lots of markets to bet on, including MLB, NBA, NFL and European sports.
